Sampling Stations

The sampling stations monitored by LACA and DEQ are updated each year prior to the sampling season.  DEQ tends to monitor their stations (lake stations and stream stations) on a monthly basis.  LACA volunteers monitor lake and stream/creek stations four times each year (once in April, June, August, and October).

DEQ and LACA also monitor multiple locations on the lake for cyanobacteria, also called blue-green algae.  Cyanobacteria are capable of producing and releasing toxins that are harmful to humans and animals.  The LACA cyanobacteria sampling protocol includes weekly sampling at multiple stations.  The goal is to test all primary cyanobacteria stations once every 3-4 weeks.  The cyanobacteria sampling stations span the entire lake (public and Waste Heat Treatment Facility (private) sides).

Station Listings and Maps:  There are more than 45 sampling stations spread across the lake and streams that flow into the lake from Orange, Spotsylvania and Louisa counties.  Listings of the lake, stream and cyanobacteria stations are available in the Water Quality Committee Library.  The listings included in the Water Quality Committee Library are also available in Google Map image form.  Click on the links below for map views of the stations locations.
