| NEWS | Lake Anna Special Area Plan -- The Facts
|
|
|
There have recently been letters in the local news media and elsewhere suggesting that Lake Anna residents and users should be alarmed because of recommendations in a Special Area Plan that would restrict skiing, limit horsepower in fishing areas, etc etc.
LACA is alleged to have submitted this plan to the Louisa Board of Supervisors. The facts are:
- The Lake Anna Special Area Plan was developed in March 2000 by a committee assembled by the Boards of Supervisors of the three Counties at the request of the Lake Anna Advisory Committee (NOT LACA).
- In the plan there are NO recommendations to restrict recreational use. However an Appendix provides information copies of previous studies and plans. The first plan included in the appendix was done in 1971 by Dominion Power. It has recommendations on recreation (page 80 of 113) as follows:
"XII. Consider joint regulations for water use: (N)
A. Limit horsepower of boats in fishing areas,
B. Ban powerboats from beach and swimming areas
C. Direct water skiing to large expanses, away from narrow areas, beaches, and marinas."
The big "N" means this recommendation was NOT included in the Lake Anna Special Area Plan.
- Clearly the allegations that LACA has made these recommendations are false. Neither LACA nor LAAC made the alleged recommendations and Dominion who made the recommendations has not pursued them since 1971.
- The plan is on the LACA web site strictly for informational purposes.
