A yard where wildlife thrives and feels welcome is what
LEEP calls a "Wildlife Friendly Yard." You may have to let
go of some of your ideas of "the perfect yard," but creating a
Wildlife Friendly Yard could be one of the most rewarding things you do
for yourself (and wildlife) this year.
How can I have one?
There are lots of ways you can have a Wildlife Friendly Yard. Here are some suggestions!
Grow plants that attract bees and butterflies.
Consider:
Butterfly Bush
Coneflowers
Four O'Clocks
Lantana
Mint flowers
Clover
Fruit Trees
Parsley and Dill
Maintain birdhouses and birdfeeders.
Grow berry-producing shrubs for birds. Provide water for wildlife bathing and drinking.
Let part of your yard remain natural so small animals
can find shelter.
You can even have your yard certified by
the National Wildlife Federation as an official Backyard Wildlife
Habitat™
